Description
Summary:This article deals with the dynamics of the Contact Portuguese spoken by the Guarani from the state of Espirito Santo, taking into consideration the effect of social variables in constraining the variable use of the 3rd person’s verbal agreement. The study is based on the theoretical assumption of Variationist Sociolinguistics regarding the acquisition of linguistic variation by L2 speakers (Howard et al., 2013) and methodological aspects of the sample organization, data collection, and analysis. The results showed that the dynamics of variation of the Contact Portuguese spoken by Guarani is strongly related to social aspects, specifically regarding the roles of men and women in the social organization of Guarani and their consequences in the contact with Brazilian Portuguese.
