Descripción
Sumario:In the Amazon, the relationship between people and plants is part of everyday life, an important part of constructing regional identities. This article addresses the circulation of plants in the Upper Rio Negro, in Amazonas, based on a survey of ethnobotanical and archaeobotanical research in the northwest Amazon. In northwestern Amazonia, these data are fundamental for understanding ways of life and regional identities. Indigenous peoples used various resistance strategies during Portuguese domination to preserve their culture and customs. Communities have been consuming these plants since pre-colonial times, making them a legacy from ancestors. Thus, the aim here is to understand the role of plants in the daily lives of people, ranging from management to plantation, through marketing and exchange, to  consumption, identifying the processes of continuity and discontinuities in food practices in the Alto Rio Negro region.
