Description
Summary:The Covid-19 epidemic highlighted the harsh living conditions of a large part of the population of Brazilian metropolises, including the lack of regular access by many households to the most basic urban services, such as treated water, sewage collection network and housing infrastructure, the which is considered by health organizations as basic and essential elements in facing Covid-19. This article addresses: (i) the issues of water shortages in subnormal agglomerations in the midst of the pandemic given the need to ensure water security as an essential tool for the life and combat of Covid-19. (ii) as the exclusionary aspects of urbanization, see the different conditions that populations had to protect themselves and face the coronavirus. Expressions such as: "stay at home", "wash your hands frequently" and "keep your distance", (no) are effective depending on the reality that is experienced. The methodology used consisted of a bibliographic review based on scientific journals and the use of newspaper articles. In the final stages of this article, we conclude that some of the basic elements for facing Covid-19, such as water security and the fulfillment of basic social rights, are results from the socio-spatial point of view of differentiation from the perspective of the right to the city.
