Sumario:The secularization process was triggered in modernity and its main characteristic was the transformation of institutions and individual human actions, which went from a foundation anchored in the sacred, transcendent sphere, to a legitimation in secular, secular terms. An issue, however, with an even greater degree of importance for our time, and which is related to secularization, is the phenomenon of the return of the religious in contemporary society. What we can observe is that secularization did not suppress religion completely, as many modern theorists thought. It is in this sense that we speak of a return of the religious today, that is, religion (and/or religiosity) begins to occupy an important space in the private lives of individuals, shaping their world views and behaviors, which has strong impacts in the public sphere. Contrary to what was expected, secularization opened space for the proliferation of a large number of religious manifestations and sects. It is based on this observation that I intend to contribute to the contemporary debate on the religious phenomenon, bringing to reflection the ideas of Luc Ferry and Gianni Vattimo.
