Genotypes C-805, C-505, C-125, C-606, C-929 and C-747 were used and experiments were undertaken according to randomized block design with 16 treatments and 4 replications. Attack of S. frugiperda in 10 plants per part was weekly evaluated, based on visual scale of grades; moreover, the number and size of caterpillars were determined. Results showed that genotype C-505 was the least attacked by S. frugiperda, whilst the most attacked were C-805 and C-125. Population and damage were less when C-606 and fertilizer application were associated. Insecticide avoided higher damages and larger numbers of caterpillars in all genotypes. During the “dry” season the application of fertilizer affected only slightly incidence and damage of pestOs experimentos foram conduzidos na FCAV/UNESP - Campus de Jaboticabal, Estado de São Paulo, nos anos agrícolas de 1997/98 e 98/99, tendo-se por objetivo estudar a influência ou não do adubo químico e inseticida sobre a população de Spodoptera frugiperda (Noctuidae) em quatro genótipos de milho, Zea mays (Poaceae), nas épocas de semeadura “das águas” e “de safrinha”. Os genótipos utilizados foram C-805, C-505, C-125, C-606, C-929 e C-747, em delineamento de blocos ao acaso no esquema fatorial (2x2x4) e 4 repetições. Foi avaliado o ataque de S. frugiperda em 10 plantas por parcela, semanalmente, baseando em escala visual de notas, e realizadas observações quinzenais do número e tamanho de lagartas.
