| Sumario: | This work aims to reflect on the role of Avenida Hélvio Basso, in the south-central portion of the urban area of Santa Maria, Rio Grande do Sul (RS), within what Milton Santos (2006) identifies as an informational technical-scientific period. For this, the concepts and categories of analysis proposed by Milton Santos were used and, as methodological procedures, the survey of the urban land use of the road, through fieldwork and consultation of the urban legislation of Santa Maria, RS. Avenida Hélvio Basso has been undergoing intense transformations, especially in the last 20 years (2001-2021), with the installation of a series of commercial developments, -horizontality and verticality, which configure the uses of the territory on the road, impacting the urban dynamics of the County. We conclude that Avenida Hélvio Basso is a new bright space in Santa Maria, RS, superimposed on immense opaque spaces, denouncing the problem of socio-spatial inequalities in the municipality. |
