Descripción
Sumario:Virtual simulation is an innovative alternative that promotes active learning. The objective of the study was to analyze national and international publications regarding the potential and challenges of using virtual simulation in health and nursing education. This is an integrative review carried out in the PubMed/Medline, Scopus, CINAHL and LILACS databases, from 2018 to 2021. 21 articles were included for analysis. Studies in nursing predominated using virtual patients. Virtual simulation promotes student-centered, authentic and safe learning in different situations. The challenge of the scarcity of fast internet stands out. The results expand knowledge about the application of virtual simulations in health education, especially in nursing.
