| Sumario: | This article analyzes the trade and association inserts a black man during the Empire and early Republic, Brazil, noting the positions held by him in social and political networks that enabled him to rise and prestige. We realize that Virissimo Aurélio de Bittencourt was a racial-ethnic self-representation brown, perceive themselves as equidistant from the white world, and from captivity, in which these worlds lived and circulated.
