| Sumario: | The paper discusses the added value in the Brazilian rural agro-industries. The information is derived from tabulations based on Agricultural Census microdata, which allowed us to construct a sectorial and macro-regional comparison. Among the wide set of manufacturing and processing activities measured by the census, we selected nine processed products in the rural establishments (aguardente, jams and jellies, cassava flour, corn meal, bread, cheese and cream cheese, rapadura, sausage and tapioca). The discussion focuses on the interaction between the quantitative results from variables such as production value, trade value and value-added, and the particularities of the different economical, political and institutional contexts found both in the macro-regions and value chains. Despite the different sectorial and territorial dynamics, the results support the importance of the rural agroindustry as strategic activity for adding value and rural development. |
