NEONATOS DE ALTO RISCO EM USO DE CATETER INTRAVENOSO PERIFÉRICO

This observational, prospective study aimed todescribe the profile of newborns that use peripheral venouscatheters and present risk factors for the development ofcomplications. The sample consisted of newborns thatwere hospitalized in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, from 01/02 to 30/06/2013. Among...

Descripción
Sumario:This observational, prospective study aimed todescribe the profile of newborns that use peripheral venouscatheters and present risk factors for the development ofcomplications. The sample consisted of newborns thatwere hospitalized in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, from 01/02 to 30/06/2013. Among the 145 newbornsthat used 677 peripheral venous catheters, 95 presentedcomplications. There was statistical significance forcomplications in newborns: who were premature, usingcentral venous catheters and endotracheal intubation, hadgreater mean usage of catheters, lower mean birth weightand longer mean time of hospitalization. Using peripheralvenous catheter exposes newborns to risks arising fromtheir use, however, understanding the complications andtriggering risk factors based on evidence qualifies the care.
