Sumario:Despite being poorly researched by the Social Sciences of Religion, “Quimbanda” is unquestionably the most stigmatized Afro-religious practice in Brazil, especially when compared to the social reception of “Umbanda”. Some authors describe “Quimbanda” as counterculture, emphasizing its cultivation of memory and ancestry. In contrast, “Umbanda” portrays “Quimbanda” as a dwelling place of spirits that refuse to evolve. Considering the spiritual and social antagonism of these mentioned religions, the general objective of this dissertation is to identify “Umbanda's” perceptions of “Quimbanda” in the bibliography of Social Sciences of Religion. Accordingly, the concept of "imaginário" (imaginary) is our theoretical framework, the best way to analyze the mentioned reception is by considering the impacts of the images portraying “Quimbanda” on the memory of “Umbanda” faithful followers, whether they are discursive or material
