| Sumario: | The reform of pension systems has been a main concern both in the developed and in the developing world. The basic reason is the growing awareness of the adverse effects of two demographic factors on the pay-as-you-go pension system: decrease in fertilityand increase in longevity. Analyzing the weakness of the pay-as-you-go pension system, the article advocates the adoption of the capitalization system, an experience that has been very successful in the Chilean case. |
