Sumario:Introduction: Nitrate is a nutritional resource used in sports due to its ergogenic activity, being a precursor substance of nitric oxide and having an important role in the regulation of functional and physiological parameters related to sports performance, due to its vasodilator and hypotensive action. Objective: To carry out a literature review to present and discuss the effects of nitrate ingestion on cardiovascular and hemodynamic responses during strength training. Materials and Methods: A search was carried out in the PubMed and SciELO databases, including studies that associated these three factors (nitrate; cardiovascular responses; strength training). Results: It was possible to verify that nitrate influences the hemodynamic response due to the metabolization of nitrate, which will generate nitric oxide as a product in the systemic circulation, increasing its production in the bloodstream, especially in conditions where there is an increased demand for oxygen, such as during physical exercise. The physiological effects include the improvement of mitochondrial and muscle breathing, modifying factors such as blood pressure, heart rate and reduction of oxygen consumption during exercise, due to smooth muscle relaxation, promoting vasodilation and blood flow regulation. and consequently improving the supply of oxygen. Conclusion: Nitrate supplementation has positive physiological effects in training that improve performance and sports performance. However, these effects are not seen in all studies, due to the influence of certain variables such as physical conditioning, exercise duration and administered doses.
