Occupational and sexually transmitted infections represent a major public health problem, as annually more than 1 million people are infected, with about 40 million deaths since the first case of HIV/AIDS. The global implementation of rapid diagnoses and effective antiretroviral therapy has made possible a significant reduction in morbidity and mortality. However, the world literature reveals that it is necessary to improve knowledge of HIV prevention measures among university students. The objective of this study was to analyze the knowledge of nursing students regarding the prevention of these infections. The model followed was prospective observational and transversal, following the STROEBE rules, with a questionnaire to evaluate the knowledge of the academics. We concluded that there was an heterogeneity in the responses of the academic students of nursing course regarding the risks and prevention of infection of university students to HIV and AIDS, being similar to the results found in the international studies that were discussed in this study. Despite this, there were significant correlations between the knowledge of university students and the use of condoms, tests and pre-exposure prophylaxis to HIV. Sexuality must be understood in a comprehensive way and its complexity must be recognized, valuing it as a fundamental experience of the human being. |

La implementación global de diagnósticos rápidos y terapia antirretroviral eficaz ha permitido una importante reducción en la morbimortalidad. Sin embargo, la literatura mundial revela que es necesario mejorar el conocimiento de las medidas de prevención contra el VIH entre los universitarios. El objetivo del trabajo fue analizar los conocimientos de académicos de enfermería en lo que se refiere a la prevención de estas infecciones. El modelo seguido fue el prospectivo observacional y transversal, siguiendo las reglas STROEBE, con aplicación de cuestionario para evaluar el conocimiento de los académicos. Concluimos que hubo una heterogeneidad en las respuestas de los académicos del curso de enfermería en lo que se refiere a los riesgos y prevención de la infección de los universitarios al virus VIH y SIDA, siendo similar a los resultados encontrados en los estudios internacionales que se discutieron en este estudio. Sin embargo, se observaron correlaciones significativas del conocimiento de los universitarios al uso de preservativos, pruebas y profilaxis pre-exposición al VIH. Entretanto, a literatura mundial revela que é preciso aprimorar o conhecimento das medidas de prevenção contra o HIV entre universitários. O objetivo do trabalho foi analisar o conhecimento de acadêmicos do curso de enfermagem no que se refere à prevenção dessas infecções. O delineamento da pesquisa foi observacional e transversal, seguindo as regras STROEBE, com aplicação de questionário para avaliar o conhecimento dos acadêmicos. Concluímos que houve uma heterogeneidade nas respostas dos acadêmicos do curso de enfermagem no que se refere aos riscos e prevenção da infecção dos universitários ao vírus HIV e AIDS, sendo similar aos resultados encontrados nos estudos internacionais que foram discutidos neste estudo.
