The concepts of a capital city were used to develop this research in order to delimit the space occupied by Rio de Janeiro before all the other cities in Brazil, in addition of using tools of prosopography to carry out a collective study of this specific group: French artists in Rio de Janeiro.O presente trabalho tem como objetivo a compreensão da dinâmica social e comercial dos franceses na Corte a partir de um levantamento dos locais de atuação dos artistas franceses que estiveram no Rio de Janeiro entre a década de 1830 e os anos finais do império em 1889. Identificar quais locais em que os artistas franceses atuavam permite saber mais sobre as suas experiências, suas possibilidades de locação no espaço e o tipo de clientela que demandava seus serviços, fatores que muito informam sobre suas redes de sociabilidade.
