Descripción
Sumario:This study aims to understand the social and commercial dynamics of the French artists in the Brazilian Court by pinpointing the places where they worked in Rio de Janeiro between the 1830s and the last years of the empire in 1889. Identifying the places in which the French artists worked allows us to learn more about their experiences, their possibilities for rent, and the type of clientele that demanded their services, factors that greatly inform us about their social networks. The concepts of a capital city were used to develop this research in order to delimit the space occupied by Rio de Janeiro before all the other cities in Brazil, in addition of using tools of prosopography to carry out a collective study of this specific group: French artists in Rio de Janeiro.
