Summary:The aim of this text is to analyze and reflect on the alternation between an approach that focuses on the mimesis of figurative representation and another with a more informal and abstract character in the works of certain artists. This is a frequent procedure of certain painters in the contemporary world. This reflection is focused on four artists: Sergio Nunes, Paulo Pasta, Rodrigo Andrade and Luiz Zerbini. The painting and its processes and techniques are privileged in this research, being analyzed formal and poetic aspects of the works of these artists.
