Sumario:This is a qualitative research to investigate the musealization process (acquisition, research, conservation, documentation and communication) that the Ethnographic Collection of the Emílio Goeldi Museum, Brazilian cultural heritage, is subjected. There were documentary and bibliographic research, such as data collection techniques, carried out. In addition to the examination of the concepts of “artifact”, “ethnographic object” and “mentifact”, a brief history of the expansion of the concept paper was made. The results showed that the phases of the ethnographic collection musealization process are interdependent, complementary and define the status of the object as heritage.
