Sumario:This work presents a historical retrospective about the development of graphic humor in the Paraíba daily press, based on the pioneering work of the newspaper O Norte, the largest newspaper in circulation in the Paraíba at the time. In the study realized, it was found that the newspaper O Norte was the first periodical to use graphic humor as a satirical-humoristic resource in the daily press of Paraíba, promoting the use of caricatural language in daily state journalism. The study focused on an analysis of the editions that circulated in the period from 1968 to 1980, focusing on a universe of 364 humor images used at the time. Based on the contribution coming from Cultural History and Social History, this work highlights the importance of iconography for the field of History, revealing, among others, the historical documentary character that humor drawings take on as valuable cultural artifacts in use in everyday life.
