Sumario:Several educational strategies have been proposed by educators and researchers in the field of science teaching, as an example of the approach of socioscientific issues, which main goal is to develop citizenship criticism. Such criticism has already been widely defended and defined by many researchers, including one of the most important Brazilian thinkers: Paulo Freire. However, Freire's work has not yet been thought of in conjunction with the approach to socioscientific issues, with a view to proposing the use of the two in a unified way. In view of this gap, the aim of this article is to analyze possible approximations between the approach to socioscientific issues and Freirean Pedagogy, in order to propose a strategy for using the two approaches together. For this, we conducted an exploratory theoretical research, aiming to build hypotheses on the topic. The main works of Paulo Freire and some of the most important articles on socioscientific issues were analyzed, and the proposed methodologies were compared, looking for points of approximation between them. The reflections indicated that the approach to socioscientific issues and Freirean Pedagogy have several aspects in common, such as dialogicity, the use of topics of interest to students and the search for the transformation of reality. Therefore, it was possible to propose a strategy based on the two approaches so that one complemented the other.
