Sumario:In today’s globalized and complex world, human capital draws focus in leadership-related areas in educational institutions and the related human resource management. Therefore, we should recognize the perceptions of teachers and staff regarding the practices and behavior related to principals’ leadership skills. As its methodological framework, this mixed-nature research examined a case study focusing on the second and third cycles of basic education in a middle school situated in the archipelago of the Autonomous Region of Madeira. The Leadership Practice Inventory (LPI) Observer questionnaire by Kouzes and Posner was administered to the school’s teachers and staff. Content analysis focused on the School Educational Project and the Annual School Action Plan. In conclusion, respondents opined that an effective principal should emphasize leadership practices involving notions such as “Enable Others to Act” and “Encourage the Heart”.
