Sumario:Introduction: Food and Nutrition Security (FNS) is a complex phenomenon in which multiple factors interact, reverberating food access. In this regard, using indicators to measure this aspect contributes to providing subsidies that can help to manage public policies and programs, decision-making when developing and implementing such actions, and evaluating their results. Objective: Evaluate the Food and Nutrition Security status of a northwest municipality in Rio Grande do Sul through an Indicators Protocol that uses secondary data. Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach carried out in the second half of 2020. An indicator protocol based on a public and online secondary database was applied for the analysis of the Food and Nutrition Security. The protocol assesses food safety considering four dimensions (availability of food; food consumption; access to food; and biological use of nutrientes) and each city can be classified as having mild, moderate, or severe Food Nutrition Insecurity. Results: Based on the results of the study, the municipality was classified as Low Food Insecurity, and the dimension that most contributed to this condition was food consumption, where it was verified the existence of factors that, if not addressed, can generate greater commitment and risk of food and nutrition insecurity. Conclusion: The study achieved its objectives by carrying out the diagnosis of FNS in the municipality, which could be potencial instrument for monitoring the FNS situation at the local level.
