| Sumario: | The complexity of the organizational processes and the needs of improving their results make the industrial companies to search for effective alternatives for the planning and management of production systems, which generally impact in the performance of the entire supply chain. In this context, the use of optimization models and tools can give the organization great benefits. The present study proposes a linear programming model for the optimization of the aggregate planning for the manufacturing of items of a metalworking sector company (drill bits company). The objective function of the proposed model maximizes the contribution margins of the products, respecting the capacity and demand constraints for multiperiod planning. This study also presents evaluation scenarios that may be useful in the management of the manufacturing activities. The applied methodology shown itself to be powerful to define and improve the aggregate planning activities, helping to determine the products mix and upgrading the management decisions, which confirms the viability of the applied method and reaches the goals. Assuming a specific scenario representing the current conditions of the production plan conducted in the company, the proposed model achieved an improvement in the contribution margin of more than 7%. In addition to assisting in decision making, the use of the mathematical model allows the generation of an important database for managers, who can report to the executives the characteristics of the production planning and company's results, in a quick, direct and quantitative way. |
