Sumario:OBJECTIVES: to identify determinants of Burnout Syndrome in nurses working in the ICU, based on the researched scientific production and to discuss the findings in the light of the relevant literature. METHOD: This is an Integrative Review, which systematizes research results and evidence on the subject of study. We searched for articles published in the last 20 years (1999-2019), with searches carried out from October to December 2019. The descriptors used were generated from the list of Health Sciences Descriptors (DeCS) submitted to the Scielo databases, SCOPUS, LILACS, CINAHL, MedCaribe, BDEnf, Science Direct and Medline. It should be noted that the checklist recommendations with 27 items of the Statement for Reporting Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyzes of Studie (PRISMA) and the PICO strategy were followed. RESULTS: According to the researched studies, the main determinants of Burnout Syndrome in nurses working in the ICU are: sleep patterns, other mental disorders, human / material resources, workload, coping with death and human suffering, other employment relationships, age and professional experience, interpersonal relationships and technical-scientific complexity of the ICU. CONCLUSION: Through the results it is evident that there are a large number of ICU nurse professionals affected by BS, who are physically and emotionally exhausted, without psychological support from the hospital institutions that employ them, susceptible to develop disorders of the reproductive, cardiovascular and metabolic, in addition to escapism for drug abuse (alcohol and tobacco).
