| Sumario: | Under the perspective of Variationist Sociolinguistics, this study deals with the deletion of alveolar plosive /d/ in the gerund morpheme /ndo/, in the informal variety of Brazilian Portuguese spoken in Fortaleza-Ceará. Our aim is to investigate the influence of social and linguistic factors on this phenomenon. We analyzed 24 interviews from the Norma Oral do Português Popular de Fortaleza (NORPOFOR) project. Data analysis revealed that amongst social and linguistic variables, the most relevant one is education, that is, those who have few years of formal education are the ones who most delete the alveolar plosive of Brazilian Portuguese gerund. |
