Sumario:The innumerable changes imposed on the environment and the constant territory modifications have caused impacts on the natural ecosystems. Among them, the climatic variations along with the vegetation reduction, for example, alter the urban microclimate. Thus, it emphasizes the importance of afforestation that helps in reducing the solar incidence on the surface and also in air purification, heat gain, improves the population thermal comfort. This research aimed to evaluate the thermal characteristics of the Medeiros Stream Hydrographic Basin in São Carlos (SP), using fixed points and mobile transects. The methodology consisted of daily data collection with measurements made at two fixed points for 30 minutes over 1.53km course. The results showed a temperature change from 20.15 ° C to 21.55 ° C, explained by the occupation type of the basin because there is a variation in the density of the trees that concentrates on the place and the concentration of constructions and low number of trees. Thus, the influence that vegetation has on maintaining the urban microclimate, softening local temperatures is notorious. It is also emphasized the importance of conducting similar studies, in order to help decision-making by the public authorities and residents to choose locations for the creation of environments containing areas with vegetation, thus improving the population thermal comfort.
