| Sumario: | The article contributes to urban history by applying historical cartography and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) toreconstruct the itineraries of trams in Rio de Janeiro during the 20th century, especially during the transition from animal traction to electric power. Using GIS tools, historical maps were georeferenced and vectorized, allowing for the precise reconstruction of the routes. The results reveal transformations in urban mobility and the influence of technologicalinnovations on transportation. The research values historical heritage and enhances historical cartography methodologies, expanding their use in urban studies, memory preservation, and the analysis of transportation evolution. |
