Descripción
Sumario:Domestic violence against women is a public health and safety problem that requires the action of several sectors. This research aims to identify the elements of social representation of military police officers about domestic violence that influence the care given to women. Qualitative study, based on the Theory of Social Representations, carried out with 22 police officers from Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. The categorization of the interviews was carried out using the IRaMuTeQ software in four thematic axes: the family context of the violence; partner fear; acknowledgment of machismo and the daily routine of dealing with occurrences. The results point to elements that make it difficult for women to cope with police assistance, and the need to raise awareness and improve professionals on gender issues and the (re)signification of assistance to women.
