| Sumario: | The objective was to understand the meanings of motherhood and experiences of pregnancy in primiparous and multiparous women. Six pregnant women were interviewed, three multiparous and three primiparous. In their speech, issues such as physical difficulties, bodily changes, impact of pregnancy on marital relationships, planning for pregnancy and parental involvement were mentioned. It was observed that the primiparous inexperience brought insecurity, while in some multiparous there was room for ambivalence considering the fact that pregnancy has not been planned. In multiparous, there was major concern in terms of the impact of pregnancy on the family structure. Regarding sources of support, they emphasized the active participation of the partner, the baby’s father, showing its importance to the psychological well-being of women. The differentiation between trimester’s stage was not significant for the investigation of the emotional aspects of pregnancy, considering that many feelings became more prominent in different moment, regardless of trimester. |
