Sumario:Cranes are essential equipments in marine oil rigs and is the main way of loading and unloading components, chemicals and food; besides, it is an alternative way of abandoning the unit in case of emergency. The low reliability or the partial operation of this equipment can render the oil production. In order to study the interaction vessel/crane movements, this work develops the equations of motion of a plane system composed of a vessel and a crane subjected to the action of regular waves. Stiffness of the moorings that anchor the vessel to the seabed is the main nonlinear that component gives rich dynamics to the system, presenting periodic and non-periodic responses. The dynamic analysis allows a better understanding of the phenomenon and indicates the best operating conditions.
