Descripción
Sumario:The article analyzes the unusual case of a theatrical scene produced in Bahia between 1551 and 1552 by the Jesuit group linked to Manuel da Nóbrega, which took the form of a performance in the streets of the city. Previous to any form of literary spectacle, and detached from a religious context, the scenic act reveals the contradictions of Jesuit work in the early years, after its arrival in the territory with the General Government of Thomé de Souza.
