Sumario:Canine visceral leishmaniasis (CVL) is considered an endemia of priority control worldwide. In Brazil the incidence of the disease is increasing and expanding quickly due mainly changes in agrarian structure in recent decades, the great population migration to urban centers and also due to environmental changes. Botucatu city lies on the route of spread of the disease in Sao Paulo State. The present study aimed to develop surveillance action for CVL using the indirect Immunofluorescence Antibody Test (IFAT) and Enzyme Linked immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) in animals attended at the Dermatology Ambulatory of Small Animals at the Hospital of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science of Botucatu. Were examined 516 canine serum samples from animals with dermatopathies suspected of CVL, however,no sample was positive.
