| Sumario: | Based on research studies about beliefs, mainly in the Education and Applied Linguistics field, this interpretative research aims to investigate the beliefs of students from an undergraduate course on Language and Literatureabout Canada and the Canadian Studies. Twenty-eight students from the Federal University of Uberlandiatook part in this study, and only one of them had already been to Canada. The analysis of the data, which were gathered through an online questionnaire, revealed beliefs related to factual and geographical aspects about the country, most of them based on the common sense. Although there is a large number of offerings and divulgation of opportunities for academic activities, teaching, researching and extension and evidence of students’ interest in visiting the country, the data show a certain lack of knowledge of students in relation to Canada and the Canadian Studies. These data point out the importance of the continuity of actions in the cultural, academic and scientific spheres that enable closer relations between Brazil and Canada, promoting and increasing knowledge of Canada in Brazil, as well as about Brazil in Canada. |
