Descripción
Sumario:This article analyzes the 'contextualization' of linguistic thought in the Arte de gramática da língua mais usada na costa do Brasil (1595), written by José de Anchieta (1534-1597), published in the University of Coimbra typography in the 16th century. My theoretical and methodological foundation is linked to the field of Historiography of Linguistics (HL), based on the models proposed by Konrad Koerner (1996) and Pierre Swiggers (2019). From Koerner's three principles: 'contextualization', 'immanence' and 'theoretical adequacy', I analyze the 'contextualization' of anchietan grammar. My goal is to show that Anchieta's grammar was linked to the linguistic thought, which arose from the Portuguese Renaissance humanistic education and the university tradition of the time. Finally, I seek to describe the linguistic community that formed the 16th century Brazil, the context of production of Anchietan grammar, based on an excerpt analysis of the grammar.
