| Sumario: | This text aims to analyze the two most recent translations into Portuguese, in Brazil and in Portugal, of Giacomo Leopardi's Operette morali (1798-1837). Comparing the translations brings up a series of issues related to the style, the poetics of the author and the interpretation of the text in general. In this sense, the fundamental difficulties encountered in translating this classic of Italian literature are related to the reproduction of the author's dense philosophical terminology, precise and vague at the same time, the poetics of the leopardian indefinite, his style alternating between the archaic and the popular, the sublime and simple. |
