The advantages of this optical instrument are described: coaxial illumination, stereoscopic vision andmagnification. The microscope and microsurgical technique have transformed the surgery of tumors and of cerebral and spinal arterial and arteriovenous malformations andhave made possible the transsphenoidal, transpetrosal, translabyrinthine and transclival approaches, the embolectomy in cerebral arteries and the anastomosis ofthe extra and intracranial circulations. The authors describe in this prelimlnary paper their personal pioneer microneurosurgical series. |
