Sumario:The purpose of this article is to examine the Uruguayan prison system from a perspective of respect for human dignity. The situation of persons deprived of their liberty is critically approached, evaluating the conditions of prison institutions and the protection of their rights. Special emphasis is placed on the need to explore reforms necessary to bring the prison system into line with international human rights standards, proposing approaches that promote rehabilitation and safeguard the dignity of these individuals who continue to be part of society.
