Sumario:Seven patients with megarectumsigma underwentsurgery for chronic faecal impaction, reviewingclinical diagnosis, aetiology and medica!and surgical management.It is suggested medica! management of chronicfaecal impaction trying to achieve elective surgery.The curative surgery should include the resectionof all pathologic bowel, but in Duhamelprocedure and its modifications distal rectal transectionshould be at the peritoneal reflection. HabrGamamodification has shown to be technicallyeasier and it has been communicated good functionalresults. Local unfavourable conditions maybe resol ve by staged surgery, which allows outlinedefinitive bowel reconstruction after functional assessment
