Its etiology, secondary to organicity, consumption of psychoactive substances and primary psychiatric conditions, also allows us to peer into the eventual connections between classical psychopathology and recent findings of the most sophisticated neurobiology. We present the report of two cases of psychogenic etiology, and postulate the heuristic possibility that, on the basis of the increasing frequency of selfies and related concepts in current human life, autoscopic phenomena may also be augmenting.Los fenómenos autoscópicos se manifiestan a través de la alucinación autoscópica, la heautoscopía y la experiencia extracorporal. Aunque no se les estudiaba lo suficiente por su aparente rareza, hoy constituyen un venero fructuoso para la comprensión de las bases neurobiológicas del self y la conciencia del yo. Su etiología, secundaria a organicidad y vinculada al consumo de sustancias psicoactivas y a cuadros psiquiátricos primarios, permite asomarse a eventuales conexiones entre la psicopatología clásica y los hallazgos recientes de la neurobiología más sofisticada.
