La técnica para la recolección de datos fue la encuesta y como instrumentos se usó el Test de inteligencia emocional de Daniel Goleman y el Test de empatía cognitiva y afectiva (TECA). La población estuvo conformada por 250 estudiantes y la muestra fue de 171 estudiantes de una institución superior. Los resultados obtenidos demuestran que existe relación positiva entre la inteligencia emocional y la empatía con una significancia de p<0.05 (Rho de Spearman de 0.368), por lo tanto, se rechaza la hipótesis nula y se acepta la hipótesis alterna. Se concluye que, a medida que el nivel de inteligencia emocional aumenta, hay un incremento del nivel de empatía.
