El término inteligencia emocional fue utilizado por primera vez en 1990 por Peter Salovey de Harvard y John Mayer de la New Hampshire, como la capacidad de controlar y regular los sentimientos de uno mismo y de los demás y utilizarlos como guía del pensamiento y de la acción.
