We argue that this characterization explains the “continuation effect” that predicate doubling exhibits, i.e., the fact that a predicate doubling sentence suggests a potential continuation that involves another predicate. Moreover, we show that this analysis correctly predicts the distribution of predicate doubling in embedding contexts.En este trabajo presentamos un análisis de la estructura informativa de la construcción del doblado de predicados en español rioplatense (por ejemplo, Leer, leyó). Nuestra propuesta es que en este tipo de estructuras el predicado dislocado funciona como un tópico contrastivo en el sentido de Büring (2003, 2016), esto es, es un elemento que evoca un conjunto de preguntas alternativas con las que contrasta. Argumentamos que esta caracterización permite dar cuenta del “efecto de continuidad” que se atestigua en esta construcción, a saber, el hecho de que las oraciones con doblado de predicados sugieren siempre una continuación que involucra otro predicado.
