Description
Summary:Abstract. The study presents a preliminary evaluation of the juvenile population of Taxus globosa in the El Chico National Park, Hidalgo. The study entailed an analysis of some of Taxus globosa?s dasometric characteristics, as well as data about its seeds. The number of juveniles registered was 176, with a juvenile/adult plant ratio of 2.3:1. The mature seeds measured between 5 and 7 mm long; weighed on average 0.41 g moist weight and 0.04 g dry weight. Although the number of juveniles was small and the seeds produced were relatively few (6-15 per mature female tree), it is difficult to argue the status of conservation of Taxus globosa because the study lacks information about those aspects. The paper concludes by stressing the necessity of more investigation about T. globosa.
