This research contributes to clarify some factors that influence the written communicative competence among undergraduate students. The source comes from the correlation within the linguistic and contextual variable as well as the writing apprehension. The results show that there is a moderate correlation between written communication competence and the student institution; which is attributed to the compulsory subjects closely related to writing. However; it is essential to find out more about the writing processes and contextual variables to provide more evidence to enable generalization of findings.Se presentan los resultados obtenidos durante una investigación doctoral que analiza 138 textos producidos por estudiantes universitarios de cuatro instituciones educativas y dos áreas de conocimiento. El propósito de este artículo es describir la relación entre la competencia comunicativa escrita; la aprehensión de la escritura i(writing apprehension)/i y la institución de adscripción de los sujetos de la muestra. Se contribuye a esclarecer algunos factores que influyen en la competencia comunicativa escrita de los estudiantes; a través de la correlación que se presenta entre variables lingüísticas; contextuales y la aprehensión de la escritura. Los resultados muestran que existe una correlación moderada entre la competencia comunicativa escrita y la institución de adscripción de los estudiantes; lo que se atribuye a las asignaturas obligatorias relacionadas estrechamente con la escritura.
