The article also provides an analysis of the changes in the characteristics of the migrants such as gender, age, schooling, rural or urban origins, etcétera.En este trabajo se hace un análisis de la migración a la ZMCM durante las décadas setenta y ochenta, en cuanto a su magnitud, evolución en el tiempo y lugares de origen de los migrantes. En particular se intenta comprobar la hipótesis de que ha disminuido la fuerza de atracción de migrantes de la ZMCM, en contraste con el dinamismo observado por las ciudades de tamaño intermedio, así como la importancia creciente de la ZMCM como área expulsora de migrantes hacia otras ciudades.
