Descrição
Resumo:The following lines are intended to highlight the presence of humor in El Álbum Mexicano. Periódico de Literatura, Artes y Bellas Letras (1849). The types of texts in which it is predominantly manifested are identified and characterized, with particular emphasis in the literature of customs —articles and fictional stories—, and a balance is made of the emotional and moral attitudes that it fosters among readers. From a rhetorical approach, this article studies the humorous literature considering its epidictic nature, and the main function of the texts, consisting in reinforce the adherence of readers to beliefs, attitudes and models of behavior promoted by the men of letters. The study analyzes the use of different strategies to reinforce this adherence, including stirring passions. It shows that the main topic of humor of customary literature in El Álbum Mexicano is a new model of family, that encompasses couple relationships and domestic matters, and that humoristic texts express and promote attitudes of superiority among those who stick to the dominant values, as well as shame among those who stray.
