Sumario:From the point of view the author’s own academic career in the specialty of historical geography, a reflection is made on the importance of a sufficiently long time perspective for the analysis, understanding and accurate intervention of contemporary spaces. With the example of interdisciplinary and team studies on the history and geography of the plazas mayores and the alamedas of Mexico, the relevance of these small and significant places of the Mexican urban morphology is raised, at a time when the defense and care of public spaces as collective patrimony seem essential for the construction of more equitable cities.
