| Summary: | Sustainability is based on the consideration of strategies that promote the well-being and quality of life of people, which are related to caring for the environment since it affects well-being and human life. Since its establishment in colonial times, the Michoacán orchards were considered by Vasco de Quiroga as sustainable units from which trade and farming were promoted, in addition to promoting happiness for the people. This article comes from the Project for the reactivation of orchards on the banks of the Lerma river, which is based on a proposal to promote food sovereignty based on traditional practices or knowledge that population that inhabits the region still possesses, but which are at risk of being lost. According to the analysis of the landscape and the cultural history of La Piedad, it can be noted that several communities or rancherías practiced river horticulture, so they can benefit from initiatives to promote and rescue heritage, specifically this one that seeks from the traditional knowledge recovered by interviews with former gardeners, reactivate orchads as a sustainability strategy. |
