This new international  interdisciplinary research program for the decade 1980 - 1989 will focous mainly on the study ofthe nature, origin, dynamics and evolution of the lithosphere, seeking to provide an improved framework for understanding those aspects such as earth resources and hazards reduction on which human society depends for its well-being.El Programa Internacional de Litósfera (ILP) fue establecido en septiembre de 1980 por el Consejo Internacional de Uniones Científicas (ICSU) en nombre de la Unión Internacional de Geodesia y Geofísica (IUGG) y la Unión Internacional de Ciencias Geológicas (lUGS). Este nuevo programa internacional de investigación interdisciplinaria para la década de 1980 - 1989 se centrará principalmente en el estudio de la naturaleza, el origen, la dinámica y la evolución de la litosfera, buscando proporcionar un marco mejorado para comprender aspectos como los recursos de la tierra y la reducción de peligros en los que se encuentran los humanos. depende la sociedad para su bienestar.Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México.
