Resumo:National states in Latin America promote connectivity in rural territories believing that this promotes growth and social development of the territory. The way to achieve these goals have been public policies that promote connectivity; however, these policies, while expressing the encouragement of social development, have not succeeded in reducing the digital divide and social inequality among the various sectors of the population. This article analyzes two types of connectivity, satellite and technical connectivity, provides a critique of the indiscriminate use of the concept of connectivity in the Latin American literature. There are studies that highlight the economic or political advantages of connectivity, and others that focus on the social and cultural effects of connectivity among rural population. It is concluded that Latin American literature lacks a joint approach to satellite and technical connectivity and its social effects on rural life. The experience of several Latin American countries with similar problems makes this type of conclusions possible
